Orville and Wilbur Wright intuited from their experience of flight in nature (birds), previous attempts at flight including non powered gliders and their well developed skills in producing lightweight machinery as bicycle manufacturers. They didn't know for sure that powered flight was possible, but had reasonable cause to think the problem soluble.

Would a faith based approach have led them to merely throw themselves of a cliff with a vigorous prayer?

The Truth may well be out there, mutable or immutable, but my experience and learning in a multi-faith society leads me to the conclusion that no particular faith has the full picture or all the answers I need.

Christian, forgive my relativism as I journey through this Vale of Tears.

"Yet, if anything is central to Christianity, it’s the belief that Truth is spelled with a capital “T,” that it is absolute, universal and eternal." Amen!

That's it, pure and simple.

I recall a staff meeting years ago at the university where I worked and the subject of class choices came up. I had the temerity to say that in my day (ancient, to be sure) we were told what we would be studying, that certain courses were required because back then it was assumed that the professors knew a tad more than we fresh men and women (that's why first-year students are called fresh!). Well, in my innocence I had dropped a bomb on these know-it-alls! "Oh, no, no, we don't do that anymore. We let the students decide." Kinda reminds me of this last election, come to think of it!!
