WaPo: Scalia Says ‘Hear, Hear’ to Machine Guns in D.C.?

It didn’t take long for the Washington Post to weigh in on the wrong side of the Second Amendment issue, did it? The Post’s Colbert I. King could not contain the disgust he feels for at least one part of the Constitution more in his response to the Supreme Court’s Second Amendment ruling today. He flipped his top and went so far off the deep end that he seemed to imagine that Justice Scalia just gave the nod for citizens to get “machine guns” to indulge their newly affirmed ability to indiscriminately fire their loaded guns “at will” in D.C. In fact in this op ed, King was so unhinged that he seemed to utterly dispense with logic as he penned his newest ode to the wild-eyed phobia that is his inordinate fear of guns (yet, curiously, not of criminals).

King’s very first few paragraphs seem to be written without the slightest bit of reflection of how illogical his position on the concept of gun laws is because it looks as though he imagines that criminals might obey a draconian anti-gun law, or any gun law for that matter if only it is enforced. One wonders why Mr. King thinks criminals are called criminals if laws would prevent them from doing anything? Worse, King can’t seem to tell the difference between a law-abiding citizen using a gun in self-defense and a criminal using it for evil. It seems as if to King criminals and citizens are indistinguishable.

King begins his spittle-speckled rant with some informal colloquialisms.

There’s one group of District residents absolutely unfazed by today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling shooting down the District’s strict handgun ban: the dudes who have been blowing away their fellow citizens with abandon since the law was put on the books 32 years ago.

Excuse me, Mr. King, but these “dudes” have been thumbing their noses at your 32-year-old gun ban, too and for the entire 32 years. The new SCOTUS ruling is certainly initially meaningless to them, but so is your three decades old gun ban that was supposed to fix it all, sir. How hard is that to understand?

I reiterate, criminals do not obey laws, sir. This is why we call them criminals.

But, what might happen to your “dudes” is, now that citizens will be able to shoot back at them instead of having only the option of uselessly cowering and waiting for the police, your “dudes” might find reason to temper their criminality. Criminals don’t like consequences much and if they begin to find they are out gunned, some of the stuffing might be knocked out of their swagger. But, if that doesn’t happen, abiding citizens can at least fight back and protect themselves for a change. Why do you want D.C. homeowners to be slaughtered like sheep, Mr. King?

With his inability to see a dividing line between law abiding citizens protecting themselves and the lawless violence by “street thugs,” King reveals his contempt for those law abiding citizens. After all, it seems he cannot tell the difference between them at all. Merely holding a gun makes one a “street thug” to King.

Then we get this bit of witless banter:

If D.C. street thugs are pleased by anything, it’s probably the fact that five of the justices — a slim majority, but that’s all it takes to win — have come around to seeing things their way.

I see. So, the five justices just intellectually signed on to gang activity? Can you read, Mr. King? I am having my doubts about your ability at reading comprehension if you saw anywhere in their decision the Justices in question condoning street violence, drug dealing, and murder. They didn’t even condone irresponsible treatment of guns, much less express a desire to make D. C. into “Dodge City.”

Then King’s medication really wore off. After recounting what he claimed was Scalia’s “hymn to the handgun” where the justice gave reasons why handguns were legitimate for self-defense, King decided that Scalia was also saying that machine guns disseminated about the neighborhoods would be OK with him.

And if machine guns one day should become the weapon of choice for home protection — what say ye then, Justice Scalia? With the exception of that reference to dialing the police, D.C. street thugs’ response to Scalia’s ode to the handgun was undoubtedly, “Hear, hear!”

A leap of illogic by King, for sure. But, he isn’t done. Next King goes on to show how dangerous he thinks the average D.C. citizen is. After saying how upset he is that “D.C. gun owners are free to fire their loaded handguns at will,” King then spits out in disgust his feeling that a war is about to erupt between criminals and citizens.

So now it has come to pass that D.C. residents can keep handguns, as well as rifles and shotguns, in their homes. A well armed, informal militia we shall be — ready to fire back in self-defense at the shooters who believed they had the right to their guns all along.

I do have one little question here: what is wrong with citizens killing violent criminals in self- defense?

Finally, King goes for a lurid capper to his screed.

America, more body bags, please.

This last brainlessly, emotional quip has no standing in fact. If, perhaps, King might show us all where more “body bags” have been needed in states that have instituted Constitutionally justifiable guns laws (such as concealed carry, etc.), why then the fear that gun battles erupting re-doubled in the streets of D.C. as a result of this ruling might have a ring of truth to it. But since states that have more liberal gun laws have not erupted in undue violence after such laws were put into effect, King’s outlandish admonition is naught but senseless fearmongering.

King’s absurdities abound in this rant. Unfortunately, logic, common sense, respect for the citizen and the Constitution are all foreign ideas to Colbert I. King and the Washington Post, and most who hold their anti-Constitutional and anti-American position on the right affirmed by the Second Amendment.

The Bible: God’s Immutable Word

Posted by Marie Jon On June - 27 - 2008

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

You can call yourself a Christian, but if your life does not reflect the teachings of the Bible and the Savior you proclaim to serve, the chances are you’ve not experienced a true conversion.

Scripture exhorts Christians not to remain babies and drink only milk. It is the full substance of God’s Word which matures our faith. We are transformed by the renewal of our mind, which is also in Christ Jesus.

When a believer yields to God’s Holy Spirit, he or she comes to understand The Almighty. It is the Lord’s will that all know Him so intimately that His every word is comprehensible to the mind and heart. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 1:18)

When reading The Ten Commandments there is no doubting or misunderstanding the true nature of God. Christ also unfolds the truth so clearly that the basics are not confusing: The Lord does not tolerate sin. The Savior leads us to righteousness for His sake. Because He is love, there is not one good thing held back from His children.

It is a loving, obedient and contrite heart that brings the believer to know God’s will. Our Lord has not intended us to merely stumble along, not knowing right from wrong. There is no debate over what is good or evil. The Holy Spirit fully guides all believers to wisdom and truth. God speaks to us today. Any confusion is brought about by the interjection of humanist moral relativism.

Our country was founded on Judeo-Christians beliefs. America is a Christian nation, but one which is tolerant and graciously respectful of all beliefs.

America stands at a religious and a political crossroad. If Barack Obama becomes president, his religiosity will be embraced to some extent will by certain members of our society. There will be more unseemly and drastic changes than our country has ever experienced. Obama and others of his ilk will dedicatedly undermine the traditional understanding of God’s Word to change our society as they see fit.

The Democrats implemented a strategy to vie for votes using Christian verbiage to draw people to them. However, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Michael Pfeger spoiled it to a degree with their flamboyance.

In June of 2006, Michael Lerner, a rabbi and political activist editor of Tikkun, a progressive Jewish and interfaith magazine, and Jim Wallis, editor of Sojourners magazine were approached by fellow Democrats to help them sound spiritually-minded. Think it not strange that today Obama is the spokesperson for the religious Left.

Excerpts from FoxNews.com: Dobson: Obama ‘Distorting’ Bible, Pushing ‘Fruitcake Interpretation’ of Constitution:

“Evangelical leader James Dobson took issue Tuesday with a recent speech by Barack Obama, saying the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has distorted the Bible and pushed a ‘fruitcake interpretation’ of the Constitution.

“The criticism, aired Tuesday on Dobson’s Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization’s headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family.

“In his remarks, which ran 18 minutes, Dobson pulled quotes from a speech given by Obama in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. Obama mentions Dobson and civil rights leader Al Sharpton in the speech.

” ‘Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?’ Obama said. ‘Would we go with James Dobson’s or Al Sharpton’s?’

“Dobson said Obama condemned pastors for their ‘diatribes’ but ’sat for 20 years under the tutelage’ of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and suggested Obama couldn’t recognize the controversial pastor’s anti-Americanism.

“Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy — chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, ‘a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application.’

” ‘Folks haven’t been reading their Bibles,’ Obama said.

“Dobson and Minnery accused Obama of wrongly equating Old Testament texts and dietary codes maintained by Orthodox Jews to Jesus’ teachings in the New Testament.” Full Article

As Dr. James Dobson so rightly exclaimed: “I think he’s deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology. He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter.”

America has listened very closely to the media’s contrived messianic man whose religious beliefs are contrary to the word of The Lord God Almighty. For twenty years, Obama attended a church that taught a false man-made theology rooted in Marxism and hatred.

Both Michele and Barack took Black Liberation Theology studies to become baptized members of Trinity United Church of Christ, a black nationalist, anti-American, anti-Semitic and anti-white organization. Its bigoted theology cannot bring our nation together, and neither can a far Left Democrat who has never once reached a hand over to a Republican in any act of political bipartisanship.

However, we’ve seen Obama play the race card as well as hustlers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Black Liberation Theology is all about skin, not sin. And did I mention he’s black?” — Barack Obama

Obama has cavorted with and befriended extremists and the morally questionable. Business associate Antonin Rezko is sitting in prison; self-proclaimed home-grown terrorist William Ayers has never expressed regret for any of his despicable deeds against America, deeds which resulted in loss of human life.

It is time to fess up to our denial and admit what is blatantly obvious: Obama is a politician with plenty of baggage that does not reflect the life of a Christian or a patriotic American.

It is written in the Bible that we are judged by the company we keep. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” (Psalm 1:1)

If Obama wants to dialogue on the issue of what is biblical, let us start with killing of the innocent unborn, what The Almighty says about marriage and the other myriad negatives that liberalism has brought to matters of faith. God will do the speaking on behalf of His people and the church triumphant. When God truly speaks, His children hear His voice. (John 10:27) Read all about the good life. It’s in the Bible

Diplomatic leaders and legal and human rights experts presented unique perspectives on Latin America’s political landscape and democracy during a recent academic discussion held at the University of Miami, according to a report submitted to the 14,000-member National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Among topics discussed was the state of political prisoners in Latin America, in particular the corrupted case against Eligio Cedeno, the Venezuelan banker imprisoned more than 505 days ago and still awaiting a fair trial after months of unfounded judicial delays.

Participants contributed to a political discussion about the lack of transparency found in many Latin American judicial systems, the recent politicization of legal cases, and the lack of autonomy that exists in the judicial branches of those governments. They called attention to the growing number of political prisoners in Latin America, the numerous human rights violations and assaults to democracy, and the unjust treatment of
political prisoners, like Eligio Cedeno, and their experiences during ’so-called’ impartial legal hearings.

The Cedeno case which began in Venezuela in March 2008 was again postponed earlier this month, marking the 5th time the case has been delayed due to a prosecutor’s unsubstantiated allegations against the presiding judge. This most recent development is yet another example of the irregular profile of the case against Eligio Cedeno, the government’s lack of evidence to uphold the charges of Cedeno facilitating the illegal
exchange of U.S. currency to a local businessman, and the failure of the Venezuelan judicial system to expeditiously rule and bring the Microstar case to a close.

“This panel emphasizes the need for reform of the judiciary systems in Latin American countries, including in Venezuela. Hopefully our discussions here would lead to a point where all individuals receive due process in South and Central America,” said U.S. Ambassador Cris Arcos, former Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for International Affairs, during the symposium.

“The panel was balanced and all the angles of the state of rule of law in Latin America were observed,” said Patricia Andrade, founding member of Venezuela Awareness Foundation, a U.S.-based human rights organization. The discussion was an x-ray of the governments who have increasingly turned towards left-wing regimes, including Venezuela with Hugo Chavez, and its allied countries, such as Ecuador and Bolivia.

Furthermore, the participants in the discussion presented a deeper look into other countries, such as Chile, Argentina, and Colombia, who have embraced firm democracies.”

“The dialogue was an enriching experience from the political point of view in Latin America,” said Yuri Lopez Perez, a past-presiding judge in the Microstar case in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, Venezuela.

From the judicial point of view, the political situation in Latin America is clearly exposed, as well as the absence of autonomy and independence of the powers of the State, fundamentally the Judicial Power where the judges are restricted and pressed to act in open and flagrant form against the preexisting legal norm, receiving their orders directly from their hierarchical superiors-habitually intertwined with a revolutionary
government.”

Other contributing members present were Roger Noriega, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs under the George W. Bush Administration, Manuel Rocha, former U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia, and event emcee Jaime Suchlicki, director of the University of Miami’s Institute of Cuban and Cuban American Studies.

To date, Eligio Cedeno has been denied his right to an impartial trial, right to reasonable bail, right to seek medical treatment, and now, the right to have an independent judge rule on the prosecutor’s presented case. Mr. Cedeno will remain unjustly detained in a detention center for political prisoners while he awaits a date for a new trial to be set.

Eligio Cedeno is a Venezuelan banker and a well-respected bank president. He also gained a reputation as a compassionate philanthropist.

On February 8, 2007, Cedeno was arrested and imprisoned by Hugo Chavez’s government under charges of circumventing government currency rules to gain US dollars. In spite of repeated calls for his release, Cedeno remains in a Venezuelan prison cell.

Cedeno’s case is but one example of the rampant corruption of Hugo Chavez’s neo-Marxist government.
