A few American ministers are guilty of misusing their church pulpits. Apparently, they have completely forgotten God’s original purpose for the use of their pulpits. Pulpits should be used for the communication of God’s truths to His children. When a minister or his guest speakers use a pulpit for any other reason, he or she is failing to honor the vows that he or she took. Therefore, how should ministers and laymen use the church pulpit? Should politicians be permitted to use church pulpits to promote their candidacy for elected office? Should ministers be permitted to use church pulpits to criticize political candidates that they do not want to be elected to higher office? Should people who are living a lifestyle that is unpleasing to God be permitted to speak behind a holy pulpit?
The church pulpit is a sacred place. But, today, some ministers are using their pulpits for promoting everything but God’s divine plan of salvation. They use God’s pulpit to promote social and political issues. These ministers use God’s pulpit to rant and rave about issues that are not near God’s heart. They even use profanity and disconcerting accusations against others that believe different than them. The church pulpit should be used to purport the Good News of Jesus Christ, not the selfish desires of politically motivated men who place God second in their lives. They should be more concerned about preaching sermons that win sinners to Jesus Christ rather than preaching sermons that help their political candidate win the 2008 Presidential Election. However, most of all, these same ministers should remember that God does not approve of them using His Holy Pulpit to promote issues that do not glorify Him. Also, when their church members die, God will not permit them to enter Heaven based on who they voted for in the 2008 Presidential Election. They will be permitted to enter Heaven solely on their acceptance of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The church pulpit is an anointed place. God’s Holy Spirit resides at the church pulpit as the messenger of His Holy Word that is being preached by His ordained minister. The Holy Spirit anoints the message of God’s Word as it goes forth to the spiritual hearts of those who are listening. However, the Holy Spirit does not carry and or anoint messages that would dishonor God the Father, such as the promotion of a minister’s political agenda. But, some American ministers are dishonoring God with their ungodly sermons that they preach to their congregation. Sad to say, they apparently do not realize that what they are preaching saddens God’s heart. In fact, the only thing that matters to God is the number of sinners that are saved at a church.
The church pulpit is an honorable place. It is a place in the church where only a few select people should be permitted to use as a religious forum. In fact, everyone who speaks behind a church pulpit with their views on religious issues might not be ordained by God. Of course, since most politicians are not ordained by God, they should not be permitted to preach their political agendas behind the church pulpit either. There are plenty of public and private arenas for politicians to attempt to get votes rather than in God’s Holy House. Also, many of the same politicians who use church pulpits as their forum for political agendas are attempting to enact legislation to suppress what is preached inside the doors of the church. Therefore, American ministers should be extremely careful who they permit to speak in such an honorable place in their church.
The church pulpit is a truthful place. Everyone who speaks behind a church pulpit must tell the unadulterated truth. Therefore, since the church pulpit is symbolic of God’s throne, any message spoken behind the church pulpit must be backed by the Holy Scriptures. However, it is evident that some ministers and or their guests have been less than honest in what they have preached. This is the reason all church going people must know what is contained in the Bible. Then, when a minister or his guests do not tell the whole truth, those who read the Bible will know it. Of course, there is not much that a politician could say that could be verified by the contents of God’s Holy Word.
The church pulpit is a holy place. It is a place where known sinners should not be permitted to use and to promote their ungodly lifestyle. It is a place that is symbolic of the Holy of Holies, which was the most holy place in the ancient Hebrew tabernacle. Of course, if you know what the Bible states about the Holy of Holies, you would know that if the priest was not properly purified before entering this section of the tabernacle, he would be slain by God for his ungodliness. Therefore, since God is a Holy God, He expects those that represent Him at the church pulpit to be holy, also. However, in the post-modern Christian world, some ministers and some of the people that they permit to speak behind their pulpits are living abominable lives. But, these people need to remember once again that it is dangerous to be in the hands of an angry God.
In summary, the church pulpit should be used by ministers and laymen to glorify God. The church pulpit should be viewed as a sacred, anointed, honorable, truthful and holy place to communicate God’s message to His children. The church pulpit should be used to preach spiritual truths instead of concentrating on social and political issues. The church pulpit should be used by Bible-believing Christians whose purpose is to lead unsaved souls into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not politicians who are seeking personal political gain. The church pulpit should be used to uplift people rather than attempting to degrade them. Finally, the church pulpit is the central focal point in any church. Therefore, it should be recognized as the place where God and His holy messengers speak the truths contained in the pages of His Holy Word.
