Gaia, a New Pagan Religion, and Environmentalism (Part II)
By Dr. Carl S. Parnell
It is obvious that the environmental religion of Gaia is attacking the Christian Church in America. It has its own agenda to join Earth worship with the Christian faith. Those who lead the Gaia movement are determined to replace Christianity with the worship of the pagan god named Mother Earth. However, it is almost incomprehensible to believe that ungodly, pagan worship would ever replace Christianity in America. But, if Christendom does not face the facts, America could very easily wake up one day and find itself in the midst of idol worship.
Does the Gaia movement have any influence in America today? The major influence of the Gaia movement in America is being promoted by the United Nations. The UN is trying to turn its environmental agenda into a religious experience. Apparently, the Gaia movement is responsible for the environmental policies supported by the United States and the United Nations. As a result, large areas of land in the United States have been restricted from economic development. Also, it is responsible for increasing the cost of natural resources used in America’s industries. According to Gaia, industry and technology are a curse to the Mother Earth. (1)
Former President Clinton and Vice President Gore are responsible for the disastrous environmental agenda that is threatening to destroy America’s sovereignty. Their agenda has been responsible for curtailing economic development, too. President Clinton, at the request of the United Nations, canceled a mining project located outside Yellowstone Park. This project would have given jobs to 175 people, and the project would have lasted for 12 years. President Clinton also was responsible for establishing a national monument in southwest Utah. Since this land was declared a national monument, it could not be used for economic development. Oil, minerals, and coal could have been developed in this mineral-rich area. Also, state and federal governments could have gained billions of dollars in tax revenue, and thousands of Americans could have obtained good paying jobs. (1) However, in the name of saving Mother Earth from environmental destruction, some of America’s politicians are becoming involved with the cult religion Gaia. Therefore, some of America’s leaders are attempting to force Americans to bow down and worship a false, pagan god. Christians, Beware!
Throughout America, there are many examples of how the worship of Gaia has become infused into its culture. It appears that America has come under the spell of Mother Earth. The central focal point has been the annual celebration of Earth Day (April 22), which began in 1970. Therefore, by looking at what happened at a specific Earth Day celebration, it would be easier to understand how this pagan worship is attacking America’s Judeo-Christian belief system.
In his book entitled Under the Spell of Mother Earth, Berit Kjos describes an Earth Day celebration that he attended in 1990. He described a portion of a worship service where members of a Christian youth group presented offerings to the Mother Earth: I bring to our Mother, the Earth, the gift of a new beginning… I bring to our Mother, the Earth, the birth of a new consciousness. I bring to our Mother, the Earth, the gift of immortality that you may live forever cherished by your beloved children. (2)
According to Mr.Kjos, the congregation of this conservative Christian church gave this youth group a standing ovation. How could Christians accept and allow this pagan form of worship in their church? Could paganism actually infiltrate and become a part of America’s Christian churches? Apparently, it has in some respect. In fact, theology professor Donald Bloesch from Dubuque Theological Seminary agrees that this new spiritual renaissance is becoming a reality in some of America’s churches. Professor Bloesch stated, “The new spirituality represents a kind of naturalistic mysticism, a reemergence of the ancient religion of the Earth Mother.” (2) Therefore, Christianity as it exists now could very well take on a new look that actually denies the existence of God.
It is illegal to promote religion in America’s public schools. However, regardless of the fact that paganism is considered to be a religion, it is unfortunately being promoted. The United Nations is the agency that is mainly responsible for promoting the religion of Gaia in America. It is being accomplished by hiding its agenda within its Earth Charter. This is the reason the Earth Charter is being incorporated into the curriculum of many public schools. According to Hans Ginkel of the International Association of Universities, “We must mobilize all in education about sustainability; that’s how we meet the next generation.” (4) Mr. Ginkel also stated, “Sixteen million teachers must be trained and the only way to move forward is by integrating the Earth Charter into curriculum.” (4)
David Rockefeller and Mikhail Gorbachev are the main supporters of the Earth Charter movement. According to Rockefeller and Gorbachev, “The Earth Charter values and principles must be taught, contemplated, applied and internalized. To this end, the Earth Charter needs to be incorporated into both formal and non-formal education. This process must involve various communities, continue to integrate the Charter into the curriculum of schools and universities, and constitute an ongoing process of life-long learning.” (4) Also, according to the same Rockefeller and Gorbachev website, “the Earth Council, UNESCO, and the Earth Charter Initiative folks already have many of the curriculum materials and programs prepared; in fact, they’re already up and running in schools across the globe.” (4) In his article in the New American Magazine entitled “The New World Religion,” William Jasper voiced a grave concern about the Earth Charter Initiative. He said that it planned to use children as the change agents needed to promote the Earth Charter agenda. It states, “We seek to increase the participation of young people in utilizing the Earth Charter as a guideline in their work as active agents of change.” (4) Is Gaia through the Earth Charter Initiative infiltrating schools in your city or county?
It is amazing that paganism can be instilled in the minds of America’s youth, but Christianity, the religion of the Founding Father, cannot be mentioned. God the Creator must be sick to His stomach, if that is possible, about the brainwashing that has become a way of life in America’s public schools. Some other examples of Earth Day activities will emphasize this point. According to Kjos, during a 1990 Earth Day celebration, students were required to write poems to Mother Earth. They also pledged to work their entire life to her preservation. Noel Brown, the Director of the UN Environmental Program, stated, “We need to develop a better sense of connectedness with all of life, and when that reference is developed, I think we’ll find ourselves more at home and at ease in this world.” (2) However, an elementary student from the state of Minnesota refused to sing an old gospel song that had been given a new title: “We’ve Got the Whole Earth in Our Hands!” It was great that this boy saw the lie that was contained within the lines of the new version of this old gospel favorite.
Public schools also have other types of Gaia religious experiences. For example, consider the back-to-school orientation for parents of kindergarten students. It would involve taking a mental journey through guided imagery. At the beginning, the parents were asked to focus on a specific poster which depicted different sizes, colors, and shapes of doors. (3) As the visualization experiment began, the teacher stated the following: “Imagine that you are standing at one of the doors. In just a moment the door will open, and you will walk in. (Pause) The door has opened, and you are standing at the top of a stairway. Now, as I count, picture yourself walking down the stairs - ten, nine, eight, seven. You are at the bottom of the stairs, standing in a beautiful valley. It is green, lush, and you are walking along a path. Along the side of the path you notice a milkweed plant, and as you look closer you see a caterpillar. Now you become the caterpillar. You keep eating and eating. You get very tired. You spin a cocoon around yourself and rest. Now you have become a wonderful monarch butterfly. You are flying around through a rainbow.” (3)
Visualizations like this example might not seem harmful at first sight. In fact, it could put the participants into a relaxed mood after a long day’s work. However, the hypnotic affect is the precursor for future mind control activities. Also, any future activities of this nature would be accepted more readily. But, even God uses images to relate His Word to us. Needless to say, a person’s imagination is an important aspect of his or her makeup. The problem that arises is to decide who or what is guiding man’s imaginations. It could be self, another person, God, or the most diabolical of all, demonic spirits. As a result, hypnotic visualizations could very well lead to an altered state of consciousness that could allow ungodly occult images to take control of a person’s thought processes. (3)
It is amazing that a God-fearing nation like America is allowing pagan occult worship throughout the land. This is exactly what the worship of Gaia and Mother Earth is all about cult worship. Unfortunately, certain aspects of Gaia occult worship has been incorporated into the public school systems of the United States. A distressing example took place in Los Angeles during the 1989-1990 school year. Seventy schools actually assigned each student their own personal spirit guide. Over two thousand children in grades three and above were involved in this ungodly program entitled “Mission SOAR-Set Objectives, Achieve Results.” According to Mr.Kjos, “The lessons in Mission SOAR parallel closely … the exercises outlined in the New Age book, Beyond Hypnosis: A Program For Developing Your Psychic and Healing Power, by leading New Age psychic William Hewitt. Children … are hypnotized, introduced to demonic spirits.” (3) Obviously, the spirit of Gaia is replacing the spirit of God.
It is extremely hard to believe that teachers in America are indoctrinating public school students to the occult beliefs of Gaia. However, apparently they are. But, if you do not believe that these students were taught Gaia occult practices, just view the following outline for the Mission SOAR curriculum:
* Prehypnotic preparation through relaxation
* Hypnotic control through colors (visualizing a rainbow)
* Breaking the hypnotic spell
* Conjuring up the dead, summoning spirit guides
* Creating an inner psychic room to meet spirits
* Learning that psychic medicine will cure all illnesses
* Accepting the spirit beings into your life
* Receiving power from a white light, a common element in psychic practice
* Planning one’s life with the help of spirit guides. (3)
Sadly, the helpers with these Gaia practices were considered to be experts. Supposedly, these helpers would be there to guide the students through the program objectives. However, where did the helpers receive their training? Who trained the helpers to guide children through a hypnotic experience? How can parents allow these demonic experiences to become engrained into their children’s minds? (3)
In conclusion, Gaia is definitely a viable threat to Christianity and the American way of life. Since normally intelligent Americans are accepting the anti-Christian lies of the Gaia pagan movement, it is important for Christians of all denominations to step up to the plate and to be determined not to strike out. The conspiracy contained within the tenets of Gaia worship (Mother Earth) must be broadcast loudly throughout the land. If America continues to permit this demonic attack against its children, the spiritual and emotional results could cause the greatest catastrophe that has ever hit the shores of the United States.
